The dress code of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is not just a uniform, but a symbol of discipline and unity. This identity of Cosmic Violet color gives an identity to the students which is similar in the whole country. Current JNV Dress Code

The standard uniform style as of now is as follows:

  • Boys (Class 6–12): Cosmic violet pants, white half-sleeved shirt with piping, black belt, white socks, and black shoes.
  • Girls (Class 6–8): Cosmic violet box-pleated skirt with suspenders + white top.
  • Girls (Class 9–12): Cosmic violet kilt-style skirt + white top.
  • Wednesday Uniform (Sports Day): House-colour T-shirt (Red, Green, Yellow, Blue), white socks & white canvas shoes.

The design of this uniform was standardized after 2015, so that all Navodaya schools have a common identity.

What changes can happen?

  • Now some reports and social media updates are suggesting that NVS may soon consider updating the current uniform. Some possible changes can be made here:
  • Option of pants or salwar-suit for girls.
  • Season-wise comfortable fabric: Better integration of woolen sweaters in cold areas.
  • Gender-neutral design: Similar functional uniforms for boys and girls.
  • Better stitching and quality materials to increase durability.

•This change can be made keeping in mind the modern school uniform trends, where comfort and practicality both are important.

Reaction of Students & Parents

  • Many students and parents want:
  • Uniform should be more comfortable.
  • There should be option of pants instead of skirt, especially for girls.
  • School dress should be fashionable, but discipline should be maintained.

Comparison with other schools

•Institutions like Kendriya Vidyalayas, Sainik Schools and RMS keep updating their uniform from time to time. These schools have adopted gender-neutral and seasonal comfort designs.
