The National Girl Child day is celebrated in India every year on January 24.
The day was first initiated in 2008 by the Ministry of women and Child Development. National Girl Child Day is celebrated in India, with the purpose to spread awareness among people about all the inequalities girls face in the Indian society.
The aim of the celebration is to create awareness in the society about the rights of daughters for their social and financial development.
The day is celebrated by organizing various programs including awareness campaigns on Save the Girl Child, Child Sex rations, and creating a healthy and safe environment for a girl child.
Significance of National Girl Child Day:
Raising awareness about issues faced by girls such as
- Education
- Girls Nutrition
- Child Marriage
- Legal Rights
- Medical Care and
- Girls Protection
Theme of National Girl Child Day 2025:
“Empowering Girls for a Bright Future“
Apart from Girl Child Day, Women and Child Development Department also celebrates National Girl Child Week.
During the week, many important programs like:
- Beti Bachao – Beti Padhao
- Signature Campaign
- Plantation and Name plate drive in the names of daughters.
- Awareness campaign on Women’s rights and
- Mass oaths for girl child protection will be administered.
A girl child brings joy, she is no less than a boy. Save the Girl Child.
Therefore, every child in the country may be boy or girl is important and are the future of the country. Girls should be treated equally and should get all the opportunities in our society for the welfare of the Nation as a whole.
