Guidelines for Utilization of Afternoon Study Timings in JNVs
In JNV daily routine, afternoon time period (3.00-4.30 pm) is earmarked for Remedial teaching/ Enrichment activities to provide intensive and personalized support to the students as per their pace of learning. However, the feedback has been received that the academic rigor has been disproportionate for students of class VI – VIII and being new in residential system these students need more time for development of life skills.
As per the existing schedule given in the PAP 2025-26 from 3.00 to 4.30 PM, Remedial/ Supervised Study & competitive exam support for class VI to XII has been scheduled from Monday to Friday except Wednesday. Club/ CCA activities are conducted from 3.00 to 4.30 PM involving all classes on Wednesdays.
This is to inform that the schedule for afternoon remedial/supervised studies is being revised and the time period between 3.00 PM and 4.30 PM is allotted to conduct life skill/ enrichment activities for Class VI to VIII except Wednesdays. However, for class IX to XII the existing schedule will continue for afternoon remedial/supervised studies and Club/ CCА activities will be conducted for all classes on Wednesdays as per the existing guidelines.
Revised Guidelines of afternoon Remedial/Supervised study in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya for Class VI to VIII:
The time period of afternoon remedial/supervised studies (3.00-4.30 pm) may be divided in two slots of 45 minutes each (03.00 PM to 3.45 PM & 03.45 PM to 04.30 PM) and slot wise activities may be allotted for class VI to VIII.
For class VI to VIII, JNV should make provision for Life skill/ enrichment activities. A list of suggestive activities is given below:
- Learning different Musical Instruments
- Learning different traditional Dance forms
- Local Art & Crafts etc.
- Value Education Program (RKM- Ram Krishna Mission)
- Atal Tinkering Lab sessions
- Khan Academy sessions
- Indian Knowledge System sessions
- Language competency sessions
Apart from these other enrichment activities such as science enrichment workshops/fest, digital awareness and cyber security modules, computer graphics design & animation, AEP sessions etc. may also be planned by JNV under this time slot as per the availability of resources.
For the smooth functioning of these activities the day wise schedule of activities may be prepared on the line of suggestive time table given at Annexure 1, and the duties may be assigned to concerned teachers. JNVs may increase/ reduce the number of slots allotted for each activity as per the availability of resources/ requirements.
The focus of these activities should be providing exposure of different type of skills/ value sets to each and every student. So that further identification and nurturance of the diverse talents/ skills of students may be taken up by JNV from an early age.
Outside experts may be engaged of different Music/ Art & craft / IKS/ ATL activities particularly under PM SHRI scheme. The activities involving outside experts will be conducted under supervision of concerned teachers of JNV only.
Sufficient number of Musical Instruments may be arranged by JNVs (under provision of PM SHRI scheme) to provide exposure of learning instruments to each and every child.
Duties to be allotted for evening supervised study to teachers by involving all the teachers. It should be ensured that every teacher gets almost the same work load by combining duties of Remedial Study, Life Skill/ Enrichment activities and Evening Supervised study.
