Success Story of Sh. Ankit Kumar Vania, Patan (Gujarat)

The story of Ankit Kumar Vania is an example for all those youth who come from villages or small towns and dream big. Coming from Kungher village in Patan district of Gujarat, Ankit faced many difficulties in his life, but never deviated from his goal. His journey started from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Patan, where he studied from class 6 to 12.
A new path due to his early education and Navodaya Vidyalaya

From class 1 to 5, he studied in Gujarati medium government primary school, Kungher. From class 6 to 12, he studied in Navodaya Vidyalaya. Admission in Navodaya was not of his own choice – a primary school teacher filled his form and started his preparation by giving him a book for the competition. This one step proved to be a change in the direction of his life. After admission in Navodaya, his life took a new turn. And a disciplined and regular routine began.
Family, Navodaya and Ankit himself
Ankit comes from a lower-middle class family. His father worked as a peon in LIC which was not enough to run the entire family’s expenses, so his mother also had to set up a toy cart to support the family financially so that she could give a better future to the children. Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya fulfilled his dream by providing a value-based and motivating environment along with free and high-quality education.
Academic Performance in Navodaya Vidyalaya
He passed class 10 in first division with 87% marks and chose both Maths and Biology as subjects in class 11, proving his determination to work hard in life. And he scored 84% marks in class 12. He was neither a topper nor a last bench student in academics – he was an average student but improved himself with hard work and determination.
Graduation and Family Responsibilities
After 12th, Ankit graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Government Engineering College, Patan. Understanding his family responsibilities, he gave priority to job first – after passing the Senior Clerk exam, he became a former clerk officer of the Municipal Corporation Agriculture Department in the Government of Gujarat. But his dream was to become an IAS, so he resigned from the government job and completely devoted himself to UPSC preparation.
Preparation for UPSC and second position in GPSC

Ankit Vaniya himself says that the teachers of Navodaya advised him to study NCERT books in depth, which later proved very useful to him in preparing for the Indian Administrative Service (UPSC). He also got full support from his friends at Navodaya, which was an important part of his journey. His close friend Mr. Vishwa Pathak secured the third rank in the GPSC exam, while Mr. Ankit Vaniya achieved success by securing the second rank in the Gujarat Administrative Service (GPSC).
UPSC preparation is done only through government institutes

He prepared for UPSC by staying in the district library and government hostel of Ahmedabad. The special thing was that he did not take help of any private coaching – he studied only in government institutions at every level. He cleared UPSC in the third attempt and got All India Rank 607. Earlier, he had proved his hard work by getting second rank in GPSC too.
Ankit’s personality development in Navodaya Vidyalaya and the ladder to UPSC
He believes that Navodaya Vidyalaya built his personality and discipline, which became the foundation of his UPSC success. Ankit’s strong subject was mathematics, which he took full advantage of.
A boy who despite having a rural background made his way to UPSC, the toughest exam at the All India level

Ankit’s story is not just an example of his success but also a living example of the concept of Navodaya Vidyalaya – how students coming from rural backgrounds can be given the best education, values and discipline – without any private coaching and privileges.
Inspirational for all Mr. Ankit Kumar Vania Ji
This story proves that with the will, support from the right organisation (like Navodaya), and hard work, dreams do come true – “No matter where you come from, what your background is”.
