a) Introduction to Multimedia

• Multimedia means using many types of media together like text, images, audio, video, and animation.
• It makes learning, communication, and entertainment more interesting and attractive.

Examples in daily life:

• Watching movies on computer/TV.
• Playing video games.
• Online learning apps with sound and video.

b) Definition and Use of Multimedia

Definition:
Multimedia is the use of a combination of text, graphics, sound, animation, and video to present information.

Uses:

• Education: Smart classes, e-learning.
• Entertainment: Movies, cartoons, music, games.
• Business: Advertisements, presentations.
• Communication: Video calls, online meetings.

c) Hardware and Software Required

Hardware (physical parts):

• Computer with good memory and speed.
• Speakers / Headphones.
• Microphone.
• Camera (for video).
• CD/DVD drive or USB drive.

Software (programs):

• Media players (Windows Media Player, VLC).
• Audio/Video editing software.
• Animation software.

d) Media Player

• A Media Player is software used to play audio and video files.
• Examples: Windows Media Player, VLC Media Player, Real Player.

Features:

• Play, Pause, Stop songs/videos.
• Adjust sound volume.

e) How to Open and Use Media Player

Steps (Windows Media Player example):

1. Click on Start Menu → All Programs → Windows Media Player.
2. Select a file (song, video).
3. Click Play button.
4. Use options:
   • Pause / Stop
   • Next / Previous
   • Volume control

f) Sound Recorder

• Sound Recorder is a simple program to record, save, and play sounds using a microphone.

Steps to Use:

1. Connect a microphone to the computer.
2. Click on Start → All Programs → Accessories → Sound Recorder.
3. Click Start Recording.
4. Speak into the microphone.
5. Click Stop Recording and save the file.
