Best Speech for Guru Purnima – 10 July 2025
A very warm welcome to Respected Principal Sir, Teachers and My Dear Friends Good Morning to All !
As we gather here to celebrate Guru Purnima, I would like to thank my teacher for giving me an opportunity to speak a few lines about Guru Purnima.
Guru Purnima is a religious Hindu Festival celebrated every year on the full moon day in the month of Ashadha. It is celebrated to honour our spiritual and academic Gurus who remove the darkness from our minds. It is celebrated as a festival in most of the countries like India, Nepal and Bhutan by Hinuds, Jains and Buddhists.
Guru Purnima is also known as Vyasa Purnima, as it marks the birthday of Veda Vyasa, the sage who composed the epic of the Mahabharata and compiled the Vedas. Guru Purnima represents the date on which Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon at Sarnath. It also represents the date on which Lord Shiva as the Adi Guru began the transmission of Yoga to the Saptarishis.
The word Guru is derived from the Sanskrit words, gu and ru where gu means “darkness”, and ru means to “remove”. Therefore, Guru is the person who will remove all the darkness in our lives and shows us a brighter path for our good future. On this day, students or disciples offer puja or pay respect to their Gurus. Many people keep fasting on this day by eating fruits. They break their fast after performing Guru Puja in the evening.
There is an old age saying in the Sanskrit phrase ‘Mata Pitah Guru Daivam’, which says that the first place in our life is for the mother, the second place in our life is for the father, the third place in our life is for Guru and the fourth place is for God. Thus, in Hindu tradition, teachers have been given a higher place in our life than god.
This day reminds everyone about the significance and values of our Gurus in over lives. We should always give respect to our Gurus who shows positive and brighter path in our life.
I would like to wind up my speech by sharing a Sanskrit Sloka about Guru. “GururBrahma GururVishnu GururDevo Maheshwaraha Guru Saakshaat ParaBrahma Tasmai Sri Gurave Namaha”
